Spray Tan Prep & Aftercare Top Tips

Spray tans are a safer and quicker alternative to baking in the sun. Spray tanning is a method in which we spray a fine mist on your body. The solution has an ingredient in it called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) that interacts with your own skin’s chemistry to turn it tanned, or bronze.

A spray tan is temporary, generally lasting you 7-10 days. To get the best out of your spray tan we like to give pre and after care to ensure you get nthe best result! If you were wanting a spray tan in the same appointment as any other beauty treatments you may get e.g. Lash lift & tint, brow tint etc, it is best to get those treatments before your spray tan!

Beaches Lash Co offer spray tans only at our Newport salon. We have a special tan booth in a private room with commercial grade extractors to extract the tan fumes from the air. For your convenience, in the room you will find disposable g-strings, disposable hair nets, sticky feet (which you stand on to stop overspray / tan getting on the soles of your feet!) and barrier cream (should you wish to use it - though we will wipe off any overspray with wipes and will buff the tan as we go).

Prep:

- Ensure you exfoliate 2 days prior to your tan, as you need to remove any old dead skin from the body

- Do any hair removal (shaving) 1 day prior to your tan

- Do shower before your appointment if you would like, as you won’t be able to for a couple hours and you may feel sticky

- DO NOT moisturise on the day of your appointment, as it will create a barrier on the skin and won’t allow the fast tanning actives to develop onto the skin

- If you are tanning the face, DO NOT come in with a face of makeup as it will sit on top of your makeup and not tan your skin

- Ensure you have loose clothing and thongs at your spray tan appointment

- We recommend parking out the back of the salon and paying on arrival, this means you can exit via the back door.

After Care:

- Wash off at the allocated time given to you by your tan expert, otherwise you will not achieve the result you want. All of our tans are express tans which means the bronzer can be washed off between 2-4 hours (for darkest results we would suggest 4 hours) and continue to develop for up to 8 hours.

- It is best to go straight home to avoid any altercations with your tan e.g. severe rain, bumping into things etc. We do not guarantee our tans if you get them wet prior to the recommended washing off time.

- Wash with lukewarm water, not hot. Don’t scrub or use soap during your first shower only water;

- Moisturise body everyday (excluding the first 24 hours) to keep your tan for longer.

-Do not be alarmed when you come out of the shower with your original skin colour. That is the bronzer that you have washed off, the tan still needs time to develop into the skin over a period of a few more hours. This is why it is best to get your tan 1 or 2 days before your event. Whilst your tan is developing it is best avoid any water whatsoever. This includes swimming, showering and/or getting caught in the rain!

At Beaches Lash Co, we provide 3 different colours of tan for you. Regular, Dark and Ultra dark. You can pick whichever one you prefer and our lovely staff will tell you how long you should leave it on for. We recommend adding the Ph Balancing Spray (for $5 fee) for those wanting the longer lasting tans. It is great if you are going overseas as often will get you 10 days of tan! We also provide Tan Drying Powder for an additional $5, this is to help with the sticky feeling of the tan and also provides a glow which is great if you have plans that night!

Now that you have all the information needed you are ready to get tanned!
