Will Fake Tan Stain Sheets?

It’s one of the most common questions we hear: will fake tan stain my sheets? The short answer? It can, especially if you sleep in it. That’s why, with our Custom Tan Formula, we don’t recommend overnight wear.

Why You Shouldn’t Sleep in Express Tan

Our Custom Tan is specially formulated to develop quickly and deliver your desired colour in a short timeframe. Because it works fast, sleeping in it increases the chance of the temporary bronzer transferring onto sheets, clothing, or bedding before the tan has fully developed.

Custom Tan is designed to be rinsed off within the recommended time for optimal results. Rinsing at the right moment allows the DHA to fully activate and bond with the outer layer of your skin, giving you a smoother, more even, longer-lasting tan, with far less risk of streaking or staining.

What Happens If You Leave It On Too Long?

Leaving Custom Tan on longer than recommended doesn’t deepen the colour in the way you might expect. Instead, it can lead to uneven development, excess bronzer transfer, and patchy results. For best colour payoff and minimal mess, timing really does matter.

Sleeping in Your Tan? Here’s How to Minimise Transfer

While we always recommend rinsing within the suggested timeframe, we understand that some clients prefer to sleep in their tan. If you choose to do so, follow these tips to protect both your glow and your bedding:

  • Apply Jet Set Glow to help seal your tan and protect the colour overnight

  • Make sure the tan is completely dry before getting into bed

  • Wear loose, dark pyjamas to reduce friction

  • Use dark bedding just in case

  • Avoid sweating or skin-to-skin contact while sleeping

The Takeaway

For the best results (and the cleanest sheets), stick to the recommended rinse time. Your skin and your bedding will thank you.
